Tool Kits for Africa

The World Neurology Foundation is committed to helping improve Africanhealth by enhancing educational programs for neurologic caregivers. The 210 Neurology Tool Kits contributed by the Foundation over the past year have helped improve care throughout needy regions in 14 different countries. Each kit includes a stethoscope, reflex hammer, tuning fork, scissors, NIH Stroke Scale, eye chart, measuring tape, and flashlight, all in a durable belted bag.

...Thanks to the Kit I have been able to better screen for neuropathies in our HIV and Diabetic patients as well as better examine our stroke patients. Using this kit has been a whole new experience in neurology and has reinforced my interest in this discipline and commitment to better quality of care to our patients"
- Dr. Samuel Amye Angwafor. Batibu Health District, Cameroon

I’m so happy. (This) is a great action for neurologists, particularly in Africa where we have insufficient medical materials.
- Dr. Anselm Dabilgou, Burkina Faso

Empowerment of Women with Epilepsy

This initiative was developed in 2006 by neurologist Dr. Lakshmi Ranganathan, in partnership with Stanley Medical College, Chennai, India. The project addresses the profound needs of women in India with epilepsy for physical and psychological treatment and long term economic self-sufficiency. Utilizing a model including medical treatment and self-efficacy and advocacy skill building, this initiative also provides the women training in a variety of marketable crafts and creative manufacturing projects and markets for these same products.

Dr. Ranganathan, with the support of the Foundation, dreams of developing an actual “Center” in Chennai which can serve larger numbers of women with this stigmatized illness.

Neuroshare

Imagine training neurology residents with no books or journals. This is a reality in several of the poorest regions throughout the world, where neurological care providers lack the resources to purchase materials so critical to their education and training needs. To help address this problem, the WNFO provides as a valuable service printed resources such as recent journals and academic texts to programs in need, where they become a valuable part of modest but essential academic libraries.
